The Media Center at Abrams Elementary

Welcomes You to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Hello!  I am your Library Media Specialist.  My name is Jessetta Hosey.

OUR LIBRARY:

The school library program serves to instill a love of reading, inspire life-long learning, and foster independent library use. Students alternate weeks between the media center and counseling.  The students come to the media center with their class to check out materials and to practice information literacy skills and digital citizenship. The library is a special, inviting place where imagination, learning, fun, and exploration is expected.  Students acquire knowledge and gain insight while in a welcoming environment.  Children are encouraged to enjoy the library to take a break from a demanding day where they can relax and open their minds to the wonder of books.

The library recently purchased classroom sets of many books. This was made possible by the generosity of Federal Programs at the Bessemer City Board of Education and Ms. Brenda Rumley.  I appreciate the BCBOE's understanding of the necessity of children and classrooms to have access to good literature. These sets will be made available this school year along with Teacher Resources to help teachers in the classroom.

I would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Armentress Robinson! She is has been a great principal and a advocate for the Library Media Center!
